Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) :-
The Congress have filed a petition to the Election Commission over the alleged manipulation by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Madhya Pradesh government over large-scale discrepancies in the voters’ list.
The Congress Madhya Pradesh unit president Kamal Nath and campaign committee chief Jyotiraditya Scindia met the EC officials and allegedly gave details of the ‘bogus and fraudulent’ voters based on surveys in 101 constituencies. They also gave a presentation listing out examples of fake voters. Nath said the number of voters in the state has gone up by 40% in the last five years while the state’s population had increased by 24%.
In one case, Jyotiraditya Scindia pointed out that a woman resident of Betul was registered under 26 different names with the same picture at the same polling booth. There are approximately 60 lakh fake voters in the state.
The BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh for the last 15 years which will go to polls in November.
The Election Commission has set up two teams. One team will carry out the probe in Bhopal, another will do so in Narmadapuram and will submit their report on 7 June.
