Virat Kohli adds two more awards to his trophy cabinet, Kaur and Mandhana also to be honoured
Yesterday Indian Cricket Captain Virat Kohli made headlines for being the only Indian athlete to feature in the top 100 earning athletes in the world, today, the batting phenomenon adds another feather to his cap.
Following his phenomenal show in the past two seasons, Virat Kohli will be presented with the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award for the best international cricketer (2016-17 and 2017-18) at the BCCI Awards to be held in Bengaluru on Tuesday, June 12th, 2018.
While Virat gets top honours in the men’s category, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana are set to be maiden recipients of the award for best international cricketer (women) for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons respectively.
In 2016-17 season, Virat played 13 Tests and scored 1332 runs at an average of 74.00. In the 27 ODIs that he played he scored 1516 runs at an average of 84.22 and 173 runs at an average of 34.60 in 5 T20s.
In 2017-18 season, the captain played 6 Tests and scored 896 runs at an average of 89.6. He scored 302 runs at 75.50 in 4 games while in the 7 T20 games he scored 153 runs.
The Poly Umrigar award is given with the fond rememberance of Polly Umrigar who was a heroic figure from the late forties to the early sixties. When he retired, he held the most important records – most Tests, most runs, most hundreds. In fact his records stood from 1962 to 1978 when they were broken by a certain Sunil Gavaskar.
