Switzerland hold Brazil to a 1-1 draw

Brazil looked all set for a victory at one stage but ended up trapped in Switzerland’s intricate defensive web, with a 1-1 draw in their opening Group E match.

Philippe Coutinho gave a perfect start to the five time world champions, Brazil by scoring a stunning goal in the 20th minute as they headed to the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.

But then Steven Zuber’s header brought the underdogs level in just 5 minutes of the second half but also pushing Miranda in the process. No foul was given, and the goal was awarded.

Switzerland played physical, fouled plenty and slowed down Brazil’s rhythm, and it earned a surprising result that puts them in a great spot moving forward.

The South Americans had 4 goals on target whereas the Swiss team had 2. Each of them converted 1 of those into a goal. Brazil had a ball possession of 52% with a pass accuracy of 88%. On the other hand the underdogs Switzerland had a ball possession of 48% with a pass accuracy of 83%.
