The Supreme Court has on Wednesday has asked the government to provide details of its decision making in the Rafale deal in a sealed cover by 29 October. The top court clarified that it does not want information on pricing and technical details.
“We are not issuing any notice to the government, we only want to be satisfied about the legitimacy of the decision making process.” said the bench comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph.
The court sought information from the Centre on the decision making process in the deal in a sealed cover by October 29 and fixed the next hearing on the PILs to October 31.
Attorney General K K Venugopal, said details on the deal cannot be shown to anybody in the interest of national security and other issues involved in the defence procurement process.
The court was hearing a petition filed by ML Sharma and Vineet Dhanda who alleged corruption in the Rs 59,000 crore deal for 36 Rafale jets, signed in 2016 between India and France.
The Supreme Court said that it is not taking into account the allegations made by the petitioners.The bench said, “We make it clear that the court isn’t taking into account arguments made by the petitioner. Their arguments are grossly inadequate.”
