Makarand Deshpande to essay ‘Daddy’ Arun Gawli in ‘Dagdi Chawl’!
Eminent theater and film personality Makarand Deshpande known for his path breaking plays and films will now be seen in a role of a lifetime as the dreaded politician gangster Arun Gawli of ‘Dagdi Chawl’ in the film of the same name directed by Chandrakant Kanse. We spoke to the multi-faceted actor about his new film.
How did you prepare for your role of the iconic ‘Daddy’?
I extensively watched YOU TUBE footage of Gawli and read newspaper articles and books on Gawli and also met people who had seen him at close quarters and also I am a Mumbai boy so I was at ease essaying the dons character and since his physical attributes were similar, I found it easier to play the role.
How was the debutant directorChandrakant Kanse like?
Kanse is one of the most promising directors he has seen in recent times and that his taking was superb and and an amalgamation of fiction and cinematic liberty and his shot takings were simply marvelous. Also the producer Sangeeta Ahiris an extremely good producer and has provided everything needed to make a good film right from the sets to the props.
We hear the film has a track of a love story too?
The film revolves around Ankush and his love story and it is a pivotal part for Ankush and my character is a kind of catalyst in the film. Ankush is an old friend and we gelled well together on the sets.
What are your forthcoming ventures like?
I have a good role in a forthcoming Ram Gopal Verma film and also my directorial venture, a Marathi film, a thriller starring himself is on the verge of release. Also my recent film Panhalahas earned me accolades and this role I did basically for my friend and director Nagesh Bhosle.
