Kabhi Kabhi Lagta Hai Ki Apun Hi Bhagwan Hai

It is not hidden from anyone in this country that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi spread incorrect facts during his rallies. Recently, in Chhattisgarh he mentioned about the former Congress President Sitaram Kesri.

“The country knows that Sitaram Kesri, a Dalit, was not allowed to complete his five year-term as Congress President, he was thrown out of the office to make way for Sonia Gandhi as the new Party President”, Modi said.
Fact check : Sitaram Kesri was not Dalit as claimed by Modi, but belonged to Other Backward Classes (OBC).

This is not the first time he lied, earlier this year during the Karnataka election campaign he made a statement on Bhagat Singh. “Has any Congress leader visited freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in jail?”, he asked.

Fact check: Not only did Jawaharlal Nehru visit Bhagat Singh and others in the Lahore Central Jail, he also wrote about it. “I was very much pained to see the distress of the heroes, they have staked their lives in this struggle and they want political prisoners to be treated as political prisoners, I am quite hopeful that their sacrifices would be crowned with success”, Nehru wrote.

Modi also lied that Congress Government under Jawaharlal Nehru had humiliated two of the military icons hailing from Karnataka, Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimayya. Modi said after the humiliation faced by General Thimayya, he resigned from his post. About Field Marshal Cariappa he said that he fought bravely in 1962 Indo-China war but Congress misbehaved with him.

Fact check: Modi in his speech talked about the India-Pakistan 1948 war, but at time General Thimayya was not the army chief. A Britisher, General Roy Busher was the Indian army chief during 1948 war. Later in 1957 General Thimayya became the Indian army chief and served till 1961. Though General Thimayya played a key role during the war but he never offered his resignation letter to the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He was praised by PM Nehru for his contribution. General Cariappa has retired in 1953, nine years before the war and in 1986 Rajiv Gandhi government awarded General Cariappa with the rank of Field Marshal.

During the inauguration of Sikkim’s first airport at Pakyong Modi said that there are 100 operational airports in India out of which 35 were made in last four years. This was again an incorrect statement given by PM Modi.

Fact check: Yes, we do have 101 operational airports in India. The Government record shows that there were already 94 operational airports in 2014. On December 1, 2014 the then Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju has stated this in Lok Sabha. Whereas now only seven airports have been completed and made operational by Modi government which were actually approved by UPA government.

Giving false facts during speeches has become a new trend in politics. Also playing with history is also becoming a fashion. During a rally in Maghar, Uttar Pradesh PM made a cocktail out of history. “Mahatma Kabir’s reflection upon equanimity and harmony has given direction to the society for centuries. I once again salute him who hailed from his land of nirvana. It is said that here, Saint Kabir, Guru Nankadev and Baba Gorakhnath sat together and discussed spirituality”, he said.

Fact check: Baba Gorakhnath was born in 11th century, Kabir was born at the end of 14th century (1398 to 1518) and Guru Nanak lived between 15th and 16th century (1469-1539).

Analysing all the incidents above it will better to say that PM Modi does not care about the facts, he just says anything to please the public. No one questions him. These are just few incidents, there are many more.

Instead of defaming others and changing historical facts PM Modi must tell to the people of India what he did in last four and half years in the Centre and in different states where BJP is ruling.

I think a dialogue from a famous web series Sacred Games is fit for Modi, “kabhi kabhi lagta hai ki Apun hi Bhagwan hai.” He is free to say whatever he wants to say whether it is correct or not.
