INDvsENG 2nd Test Day 4 : Broad, Anderson’s Fire Burns India, Lose By And Innings And 159 Runs

Lords, London :

Stuart Broad (4-44) and James Anderson’s (4-23) fiery spells have literally burnt the Indian teams into ashes at the Home of Cricket. The dismal Indian batting could only manage 130 as India lose by an innings and 159 runs at Lords and England take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match series.

FIRST SESSION :

The hosts England resumed the play on Day 4 at 357/6 with a literally insurmountable lead of 250. Chris Woakes who was not out on 120 yesterday completed his 1000 test runs. Hardik Pandya claimed the wicket of Sam Curran (40) and England declared immediately at 396/7 with a lead of 289. Chris Woakes remained unbeaten on 137.

India came into bat trailing 289 runs to save an innings defeat but Jimmy Anderson had other plans. He sent Murli Vijay packing for a duck and created a new record at the home of cricket. He has now 100 Test wickets at Lords. Only Muttaih Muralitharan has more wickets than him at a single venue. This was Vijay’s second duck of the match.

Anderson in no time took another wicket of KL Rahul (10) and both the teams went into an early lunch as rain stopped play.

SECOND SESSION :

Ajinkya Rahane came in at 4. Pujara and Rahane looked solid until Stuart Broad who looked a bit tame in the series started breathing fire. He took Rahane (13), Pujara (17), Kohli (17) and Karthik (0) in no time and India were reeling at 66/6 when rain stopped play again and tea was taken early.

THIRD SESSION :

Hardik Pandya and R Ashwin showed the other Indian batters that it isn’t that though to play the English seamers. The duo added 55 runs for the seventh wicket, the biggest partnership of the innings. Hardik Pandya (26) was caught in front of the stumps by Woakes, umpire Aleem Dar gave him not out, England took a review and Dar had to change his decision.

It was now all over for India. Anderson got Kuldeep Yadav (0) and Shami (0) in consecutive overs. Woakes took the final wicket of Ishant Sharma (2) and England won the second test at Lords by an innings and 159 runs and go 2-0 up in the 5 match series. This is the first innings defeat under Virat Kohli’s captaincy and first after the Oval test match in 2014.
