Australian Open: Federer, Wozniacki in 3rd Round


In Australian Open, defending champions Roger Federer and Caroline Wozniacki cruise into the third round of the first Grand Slam of the year.

Kyle Edmund will tumble out of the world’s top 20 after his comprehensive Australian Open defeat at the hands of Tomas Berdych in the first round. The British No 1, who reached the semi-finals last year, lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-0, 7-5.


Roger Federer weathered a stern test from the impressive Dan Evans but wore down the British qualifier 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 to reach the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday.

Top-ranked Aussie woman Ashleigh Barty has matched her career-best result in her home grand slam by winning through to the third round of the 2019 Australian Open. Barty handily accounted for Chinese doubles specialist Yafan Wang, winning 6-2, 6-3 in impressive fashion.

Former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki continued her Australian Open title defense with a decisive win over Johanna Larsson, edging past the Swede, 6-1, 6-3 on Wednesday.
